Negritude to me

Updated: Dec 3, 2022

Negritude is a literature movement of Black consciousnes across the black diaspora with poets founders Aimé Césaire, Léon Damas, Léopold Sédar Senghor.

Aime Cesaire defined Negritude as a revolt agains European reductionism. Being unfamiliar with this word I did some research and it was defined as the belief that human behavior can be explained by breaking it down into smaller component parts.

I was introduced to Negritude by studying Senghor contribution to Cesaire book of poems Cahier d'un retour au pays natal (Return to my native land).

I knew negritude as an important aspect to the rejection of colonialism but it was interesting reading its definition from one of its founders.
