In this documentary by Vox youtube channel, Johnny Harris explores how even-though Haiti and the Dominican Republic share an island they are very different.
One reason of this difference is historical, Haiti was colonized by France and Dominican Republic by Spain. French over exploited the land for its sugar cane and coffee to make Haiti an economic hub while Spain on the other hand treated the land much better.
The documentary also showed the economic difference of both countries and the discrimination Haitian faced to trade.
This documentary was fascinated to me because it showed how even there are a lot of factors that played in a country economic situation, history can affect a country present and how it made these two countries same but different.
